Arsenal Beat Manchester City for the First Time Since 2015

The Gunners defeated the defending Champions 1-0 at the Emirates for the first time since 2015. That was a year before Pep Guardiola joined Manchester City. The match was part of the Premier League. Arsenal heads into the international break with a win and a clean sheet.

Gabriel Martinelli ended City’s dominance against Arsenal by scoring a late deflected goal. The clash could have ended in a draw until the 86th minute. Kai Havertz took his time and gave a nice assist to the Brazilian, who opened up and converted it into a goal.

The win against Manchester City broke a hoodoo of 12 consecutive Premier League defeats. Arsenal kept a clean sheet against Manchester City for the first time since their last 16 top-flight fixtures. The Gunners remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season, winning six and drawing two fixtures.

On the other side, Pep’s side lost back-to-back Premier League matches for the first time in Five years. That was in December 2018 when they lost against Crystal Palace and Leicester. However, Man City will look to return stronger after this defeat.

Some Teams Proved It Is Not Impossible to Beat Manchester City

Every team knows how hard it is to play against Manchester City, even on the road. However, some teams have shown it is possible to beat them. Manchester City have now lost three away domestic games in a row with the same scoreline.

Pep’s first loss came in the EFL Third Round against Newcastle United. The Magpies knocked out the Citizens at St. James’ Park with a 1-0 scoreline. The second loss came in the Premier League at Molineux Stadium. Hwang Hee-chan scored the lone goal for the Wolves to secure three points.

Now, the third loss came against the Gunners at the Emirates. Here is a breakdown of the fixtures Manchester City lost on the road:

  • 27th September 2023 | EFL Cup – Third Round | Newcastle 1-0 Man City
  • 30th September 2023 | Premier League | Wolves 1-0 Man City
  • 08th October 2023 | Premier League | Arsenal 1-0 Man City

Manchester City drops third in the Premier League standings after suffering their second loss this season. You can deny it; Pep’s side is missing Rodri. The 27-year-old Spanish midfielder was suspended in their 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners Stamps Their Authority on the Game as Premier League Contenders

Arsenal edged past City in the Premier League standings, joining their arch-North London rivals Tottenham at the summit. The Gunners were the biggest Man City’s rivals last season. However, City snatched the title despite Arsenal leading the league for several months.

The 2023/24 season will again see the North London Club as the premier League contenders. It could be a good season for Mikel Arteta’s side as they are unbeaten against City in their last two matches. Arsenal won against City to win the Community Shield in penalties earlier in the season.
