Newcastle United 2-3 Defeat to Spurs in Their First Game Under New Ownership

Harry Kane scores first Premier League goal of 2021-22 season as Newcastle United loses their first game under new ownership. Callum Wilson enlivens Newcastle in two minutes with the first goal before Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane, and Heung-min Son comes on the scoresheet for Spurs within the first half. The referee sent off Jonjo Shelvey. Later on, Newcastle wins a free kick, and Eric Dier’s Own Goal gives the Magpies a glimpse of hope.

Tottenham Hotspurs Victory at St James’ Park

Excitement builds around ahead of kick-off as the Magpies fans welcome and celebrate their new owners in the first match against Spurs. It began well at the St. James’ Park stadium when Callum Wilson sent the stands into raptures with a goal inside two minutes.

However, things soon fell apart on Newcastle’s side as Tottenham Hotspurs spoiled their festival atmosphere and suddenly took the lead. At the 17th minute, Tanguy Ndombele curled in a wonderful equalizer before Harry Kane opened his Premier League goal for the season five minutes later. The referee had ruled out Harry Kane’s strike as an offside, but after a VAR review, it overturned the decision, and Kane’s goal stood.

Towards the end of the first half, Andre Marriners (referee) suspended the match for 24 minutes following an episode in the stands. One of the Magpies supporters required prompt medical attention. Both teams returned to their respective dressing rooms, and after the medics established the situation, the match resumed.

Heung-Min Son added a third goal with an assist from Harry Kane. That marks Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane coming on the scoresheet in the same English Premier League appearance for the first time since their 2 – 0 win against West Brom on February 7th. The two are only left with one shot to reach Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba’s English Premier League record.

At the 83rd minute, the referee sent Jonjo Shelvey off  23 minutes after coming on as a substitute. Shelvey received two yellow cards reducing the Magpies to a ten-man disadvantage. Six minutes later, Newcastle had a free-kick delivered by Jacob Murphy, and Eric Dier’s clearance caused an own goal past Lloris that gave the hosts hopes of getting a draw point.

However, Spurs managed to maintain the lead to secure the fifth position on the English Premier Table. Tottenham Hotspurs tie with Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. at 15 points each. Newcastle United maintains their three points at the second bottom of the table. Eric Dier and Sergio Reguilon were the joint Premier League Men of the Match following instant actions that saved Newcastle supporter life in the first half.

What Steve Bruce and Nuno Espirito Santo Said in the Post Match Press Conference

Despite his side having a fantastic start, the problem was that Steve Bruce’s side was not better positioned to defend well. Despite making some changes to keep their noses ahead, it becomes hard for the team to score more goals to keep up with the match’s pace. He leaves for the management to decide on his future at the club.

Nuno Espirito said that despite his side not starting well, the players could control the game and take over the lead from the hosts within the first half. The positive performance came from players’ ability to possess and finding gaps throughout the match.

The players are in an excellent position to get back on track compared to their previous matches before the international break. Nuno Espirito expects to see the positive energy coming in the next match, especially against Vitesse in the Europa Conference League.

Newcastle United Become the Richest Club in the English Premier League History After the Saudi Consortium Takeover

It’s the dawn of a new era on Tyneside, as Newcastle United is now the richest club not only in the English Premier League but in the world. Thanks to a Saudi-backed consortium takeover ending 14 years of Mike Ashley ownership of the club. The Saudi-led team took over Newcastle United on Thursday.

However, the club is still at the 19th position in the Premier League without a win since the start of the 2021-22 season. How much longer will Steve Bruce be in charge of Amanda Staveley’s Magpies? The new managerial appointment at the club will likely appoint a new manager to build this project. The Saudi consortium spent £300m to complete the takeover and ownership of the club.
