Liverpool Maintains Their Great Form With a 3-1 Win Against Newcastle United in the Premier League

On Thursday, the Reds’ maintained their Premier League victory over the Magpies at Anfield, thanks to goals from Diogo Jota (21), Mohamed Salah (25), and Trent Alexander-Arnold (87). Liverpool’s comeback victory at Anfield against Newcastle United marked their eighth win in all competitions.  

It was such an incredible performance from the Reds, who currently lie at the second position in the Premier League table with 40 points, one point less than the Sky Blues. Liverpool registers an unbeaten record in their last 6 six matches in the premier league under the management of Jürgen Klopp.

On the other hand, the Magpies have had a single win against Burnley, two draws against Brentford and Norwich City at St. James’ Park, and two losses in their away matches against Leicester & Liverpool. Newcastle is currently at the bottom of the relegation pile sharing 10 points with Norwich City.

The Highlights from the Red’s Win Against the Magpies in the Premier League

The Reds hosted the Magpies in their 17th matchday premier league match, and it proved to be a tough encounter for the visitors. Liverpool came out strong thanks to an equalizer-goal from Diogo Jota in the first half and a second goal from Mohamed Salah. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s thunderbolt in the second half sealed a clean sheet victory for Liverpool.

Jonjo Shelvey, a former Liverpool player, scored the first goal for the Magpies, giving them a surprise lead within the first ten minutes of the match. The midfielder scored the opener with his right foot outside the box following Thiago Alcantara’s clearance.

In the 21st minute, goalkeeper Martin Dubravka saved Diogo Jota’s first header attempt in the top left corner from a very close range. However, the Portuguese found an equalizer by tapping in a goal with his left foot.

Alisson Ramses Becker saved for the Reds following an attempted effort from Allan Saint-Maximin’s right foot. Four minutes later, from Diogo Jota’s goal, Sadio Mane took advantage of a misplaced backpass from Jonjo Shelvey. Mane got a shot off following a challenge from Fabian Schar and a rebound save from Martin Dubravka. 

However, Mohamed Salah capitalized by tackling the ball with ease from the center of the box into the bottom right corner of the post, sealing the first-half victory for Liverpool. The former Chelsea player equaled Leicester’s striker Jamie Vardy’s record of assisting or scoring in 15 consecutive Premier League matches.

Salah marks the 2nd largest 15th straight Premier League spot-kick by scoring in his last 14 PL penalties only registered by Matt Le Tissier’s record of scoring 23 between 1994 and 2000. This season, Matt registered his 24th Premier League goal involvements (9 assists and 15 PL goals) before Christmas, which only Alan Shearer achieved in Newcastle in 1994-1995.

Alexander-Arnold scores an absolute rocket streamer as Liverpool beat and secure three points from Newcastle United. The right-back unleashed a late unstoppable, powerful thunderbolt into the top left corner, past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Jurgen Klopp featured Roberto Firmino in the match against the Magpies after missing eight matches following a hamstring problem. The Brazilian was fully fit in training and showed his class in Thursday’s match despite being out for six weeks by providing an assist in the 87th minute to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Diogo Jota came in for Divock Origi following his knockout due to a knee injury in the second half successive match. On the other hand, Newcastle United did not feature Federico Fernandez in the match against Liverpool at Anfield. Edward John Frank Howe ruled out the Argentine center-back because he suffered a thigh injury.

Defender Paul Dummett did not feature because of suffering a calf injury too. However, Frank Howe has hope for the 30-year-old to recover and get back as soon as possible.
