FA Cup Semi-Final Draw: Manchester Derby Final Possible as Sheffield United takes on Man City, and Brighton against Man United

The FA Cup semi-final draw did not square Manchester City against Manchester United. A Manchester derby final may be possible for the first time.

The FA Cup semi-finals- the world’s oldest cup competition- is on the second-to-last weekend in April and will be held in Wembley.

During Louis Van Gaal’s management, Manchester United’s 12th & most recent FA Cup win came in 2016. No other team other than Arsenal has won the FA competition more times than Manchester United.

Fulham featured in the 1975 FA Cup final. However, they lost to West Ham. That was their only appearance in the FA Cup’s final.

The FA Cup semi finals’ key dates will be on the weekend of April 22nd and 23rd at Wembley. The final will be on Saturday, June 3rd.

Sheffield United advanced to the last four on Sunday by beating Blackburn Rovers 3-2. The last time Sheffield United reached this stage was in 2014.

Manchester United, winners of the Cup for a record 12th time, will play Brighton in the semi-finals at Wembley Stadium. With suspensions to come, Fulham will have to weigh the damage of a day that can jeopardize their efforts to advance through the Premier League to European competition.

Brighton defeated League Two’s Grimsby Town 5-0, moving into the semi-finals to face Manchester United. The Seagulls made it to the FA Cup semi-finals for the 3rd time.

Fulham Wasted Their Hopes of Advancing to Their First FA Cup Semi-final Since 2002

Marco Silva’s side seemed set for an FA Cup win at Old Trafford when Mitrovic scored the first goal 5 minutes into the second half. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored from close range after Issa Diop intercepted Andrea Pereira’s corner kick.

However, right before the 70th minute, the game took a dramatic turn. Antony made a run along the right wing and delivered the ball to Jadon Sancho. After maneuvering around Leno, Sancho took a shot on goal, but Willian blocked it with his hand, as was later confirmed by replays.

Over a shockingly short period of time, the match completely changed, with Marco Silva, Willian, and Mitrovic all getting sent out.

Marco Silva got sent off because of comments he made to referee Chris Kavanagh when the Official came over to review the video monitor. Following that, Kavanagh confirmed a penalty and sent off Willian.

Fulham was now down to nine players and without a manager. It took Mitrovic some time to exit the field. His teammates had to calm him down before he could leave the field.

Bruno Fernandes evened the score with a penalty shot sending Leno the wrong way. Marcel Sabitzer scored the winning goal shortly after, and then Fernandes scored deep in extra time.

Mitrovic Got Sent off After Shoving Referee Chris Kavanagh. Will Mitrovic Be Given a Longer Suspension?

Manchester United defeated Fulham to secure a spot in the FA Cup semi-finals. After falling behind early, they rebounded for a 3-1 win at Old Trafford. Fulham deservedly took the lead in the 50th minute with a goal from Mitrovic. However, this took a turn when referee Chris Kavanagh dismissed boss Marco Silva, Mitrovic, and Willian.

Mitrovic will serve a suspension for three Premier League games due to his violent behavior. He will not participate in matches against Bournemouth, West Ham, and Everton. Yet, the conditions of the incident suggest that the Serbian striker should get issued with a longer suspension. Silva hopes that the FA will be lenient after reviewing the referee’s report and the event footage.

Fulham’s manager, Silva, expressed frustration that his team did not get a penalty kick. Early on, United was under pressure early on, but David de Gea saved the day by blocking a looping header from Diop over the crossbar. Meanwhile, Mitrovic appealed for a penalty as he collided with Martinez in the Man United penalty box.
