New Orleans Pelicans Defeat Portland Trail Blazers for Massive, Simple Win

The Blazers’ road journey came to a disappointing close in New Orleans after the Pels defeated them 127-110. The Blazers were without their leading scorer and standout point guard, Damian Lillard, who had a right calf injury. Anfernee Simons led Portland with 17 points, followed by Shaedon Sharpe with 14, Kevin Knox with 14, and Cam Reddish with 11.

The Pelicans have won back-to-back games behind. Josh Richardson’s 19 points looked to keep themselves in playoff contention in the Western Conference. New Orleans won handily despite missing high-scoring key player Brandon Ingram for a second consecutive game. Herbert Jones scored 16 points, while Jonas Valanciunas contributed 11 points & 12 rebounds (right ankle).

The Pelicans turned the play against the Trail Blazers after a poor defeat to Oklahoma City last Saturday night. In the match against Oklahoma City, they trailed by 21 points at the half. Larry Nance Junior returned to the court after missing 6 matches because of a left ankle injury. He was a reserve player who saw action for eight minutes, contributing 2 rebounds and 2 points.

CJ McCollum led New Orleans with 22 points & 11 assists. After missing its first eighteen 3-pointers, New Orleans made 19 of 40 (47.5 percent) overall. New Orleans built a 20-point lead in the first quarter thanks to 25 points from Murphy, who hit five 3-pointers in that span. The Trail Blazers’ record dropped to 5 – 9 without Darmian Lillard. Three players, Matisse Thybulle, Little, and Trendon Watford, all finished with 10 points.

Highlights as Portland Trail Blazers Lose at New Orleans Pelicans

The Blazers’ road journey came to a fortunate end on Sunday night in New Orleans, closing with a 127-110 blowout loss at the hands of the Pelicans. Anfernee Simons tallied 17 points to lead the Blazers in scoring. Four Portland reserves also tallied in double figures alongside him.

Portland played less key player Damian Lillard, who was injured. They finished their journey with a 2-4 record after losing their 3rd consecutive game with scores as high as 39 points.

The Pelicans also were taking on the 2nd game of a back-to-back without their crucial player, Brandon Ingram. They appeared to be in fine shape despite Zion Williamson’s extended absence.

The game’s final score did not accurately reflect the New Orleans Pelicans’ dominance.

Trey Murphy III recorded an individual-career-high of 41 points in the game, making nine 3-pointers, one less than the Blazers team. Two of the New Orleans Pelicans’ three wins in their previous ten matches have come against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Murphy Sinks 9 Threes and Scores 41 Points, Leading the Pelicans to a 127-110 Win Over the Blazers

Trey Murphy III, a 2nd-year player with the New Orleans Pelicans, was starting to see regular bench time as a rookie. The 22-year-old professional basketball player scored 41 points on the night, marking the most for him, as the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Portland Trail Blazers.

At this point in his career, Trey Murphy is the kind of player with his best nights. He can drive the crowd wild with long-range jumpers and fancy layups.

Willie Green, the Pelicans’ head coach, claimed in 2021 that Trey was amazing and he was proud of him. Trey Murphy III was the first overall pick in that year’s draft. Notably, he makes a lot of shots and is enjoying a fantastic season.

Murphy, who took part in the NBA All-Star weekend dunk contest last month, also had a couple of spectacular baskets of his own. He finished the game on a high note with a driving two-handed reverse dunk drawing good thunderous applause.

Murphy remarked that he has a highly diverse game, and various strategies allow him to score.
